For a brand that has only been around since 1989, Lexus is doing quite well for itself. The vehicles that it produced over the years have continuously pushed the boundaries and because of that, the brand quickly became a household name. The car that we are going to look at today is the Lexus LS. Introduced in 1989 as the brand’s first model, work on the car reportedly began as soon as 1983.

Since the full-size luxury sedan was introduced, it has gone through a lot of changes. Its appearance and styling have changed greatly and its performance improved as time progressed and the LS remains in production today, although in a slightly different form that the original.

Originally developed as a luxury sedan for Toyota, the project fell through and led to the creation of Lexus. The car introduced many new features, which have not previously appeared on a luxury sedan at the time. An electrochromic rear-view mirror, power adjustable seatbelts as well as an automatic tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with and SRS airbag were all featured on the car.

The level of luxury that the vehicle offered was quite high. Its exterior was quite simple yet elegant and the interior offered a comfortable driving experience.

The first generation LS came with a 4.0-litre V8 engine capable of producing 250 hp and reaching a top speed of 160 mph (250 km/h).

In 1994, the second generation of the luxury sedan was introduced. Numerous changes could be seen on the car as it received a slight makeover. It still sported a look reminiscent of the original, so it appealed to those fascinated by the first generation LS.

The car’s engine remained the same, however it was now more powerful.

The third generation LS introduced in 2000 looked quite different. It had a slightly more rounded look to it which gave it a little more modern aesthetic.

Currently in its fourth generation, the Lexus LS remains a popular choice for those looking for a luxury car that’s not as expensive as a Rolls-Royce, for example, but still offers quite a high level of luxury.
